Dr. Dorit Nitzan
Coordinator, Health Emergencies & Programme Area Manager; Emergency Operations
Dorit joined the Division of Communicable Diseases and Health Emergencies (DCE) as Coordinator, Health Emergencies & Programme Area Manager; Emergency Operations, working at the Regional Office, in mid August 2016.
In this capacity she leads the Emergency Operations within the WHO Health Emergencies Programme at WHO/Europe, and provides technical and strategic advice to the Director of DCE regarding to WHO Health Emergency Programme, food safety and AMR, in close collaboration with other Programme Managers.
Dorit joined the World Health Organization in 2005. She was Manager of Public Health Services in the South – Eastern Europe Health Network, and served as the Head of Office and WHO Representative in Serbia and most recently, Ukraine.
Prior to this, she was in charge of the Food and Nutrition Administration in the Israeli Ministry of Health and was active in the humanitarian NGO “Physicians for Human Rights”. She has worked in the Middle East in Ethiopia with World Food Programme, and was a nutrition, food safety, public health and emergency response consultant in Ethiopia, China, Republic of Moldova and Russian Federation. She led health sector activities in disaster preparedness and response missions to Africa, South America and Asia, and worked in Thailand in response to the 2004 tsunami in South East Asia.
Dorit is a pediatrician, epidemiologist and nutritionist.
